The Magic of Vision Boards

My good friend Gaby introduced me to vision boards in our freshman year of college and I have been hooked since. Before I jump into raving about how much I love vision boards, let me first explain what a vision board is…

A vision board is a visual representation of your own personal dreams, goals, and inspirations.

The whole point behind a vision board is manifestation through visualization. If you are waking up every single day and seeing pictures and words that represent your ideal version of yourself, then that repetition of exposure will slowly but surely condition your subconscious to believe in those things. Once you believe in something, there is not much that can stand in your way from making it happen.

Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them! – Jack Canfield

I LOVE creating vision boards because it can be an equally self-reflective and social activity. Starting a new vision board is so exciting because it gives you the chance to sit down, look inward, and figure out who you really want to be and what you hope for yourself. My friend, Gaby, and I will spend hours with crafts sprawled out on my table creating a visualization of our dream selves, chatting about life and goals. It is one of my favorite things to do with her.

The topics of what can be on your vision board are endless and highly personal. Here are some of the things I tend to focus my vision board around:

  • Health (pictures of healthy meals, fit people, exercise practices like yoga or running)
  • Travel (pictures of places I plan/want to go, names of countries, ideal dates of the trip)
  • Mindset (pictures that illicit peace, words of affirmation, places that make me feel calm, reassuring quotes)
  • Goals( names of tests coming up next to the word “passed”, written out amounts of money that I want my bank account to reflect)

Those are only a couple of suggestions out the the infinite supply of topics you could include. There is no right or wrong way to do this, as long as what you create illicit strong feelings and emotions about what you see. That is the most important part. You can fill an entire poster board with stuff or create a wallet sized version… it is literally up to you. All you will need to create a vision board is

  • some type of board (poster board, cork board, etc.)
  • pictures (either printed out or drawn)
  • colors (markers, paint, pens, crayons)
  • glue

Creating a vision board gives you the opportunity to decide who you want to be and what you want to do, no matter how “out there” your ideas may seem. The crazier the better! I hope you give it a try and start to notice the positive shifts it makes in your mindset and in your life.
